Iam, Christe, sol iustítiæ,
mentis dehíscant ténebræ,
virtútum ut lux rédeat,
terris diem cum réparas.
Dans tempus acceptábile
et pǽnitens cor tríbue,
convértat ut benígnitas
quos longa suffert píetas;
Quiddámque pæniténtiæ
da ferre, quo fit démptio,
maióre tuo múnere,
culpárum quamvis grándium.
Dies venit, dies tua,
per quam reflórent ómnia;
lætémur in hac ut tuæ
per hanc redúcti grátiæ.
Te rerum univérsitas,
clemens, adóret, Trínitas,
et nos novi per véniam
novum canámus cánticum. Amen.

Lord, who throughout these forty days
For us didst fast and pray,
Teach us with thee to mourn our sins,
And close by thee to stay.
As thou with Satan didst contend,
And didst the victory win,
O give us strength in thee to fight,
In thee to conquer sin.
As thirst and hunger thou didst bear,
So teach us, gracious Lord,
To die to self, and daily live
By thy most holy word.
And through these days of penitence,
And through thy Passiontide,
Yea, evermore, in life and death,
Jesus, with us abide.

Mons domus Domini in vertice montium
Veníte et ascendámus ad montem Dómini.
2Erit in novíssimis diébus*
præparátus mons domus Dómini in vértice móntium,
et elevábitur super colles,*
et fluent ad eum omnes gentes.
3Et ibunt pópuli multi et dicent:†
«Veníte et ascendámus ad montem Dómini,*
ad domum Dei Iacob,
ut dóceat nos vias suas,*

The mountain of the house of the LordCome, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.
In the last days, at the end of time,
the mountain of the house of the Lord
will be prepared high above all mountains.
It will be raised above the hills
and all nations will come to it.
And many peoples will come there and say
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob.
Let him teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
For from Zion the law will go forth,
from Jerusalem the word of the Lord.
And he will judge the nations
and rebuke many peoples.
They will beat their swords into ploughshares
and their spears into sickles.
Nation will lift sword against nation no longer.
No longer will they go out into battle.
People of Jacob, come:
let us walk in the light of the Lord.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.

Ps 95:1-13
| Psalm 95 (96)
|
|
You yourselves have seen what I did with the Egyptians, how I carried you on eagle’s wings and brought you to myself. From this you know that now, if you obey my voice and hold fast to my covenant, you of all the nations shall be my very own for all the earth is mine. I will count you a kingdom of priests, a consecrated nation.

It is he who will free me from the snare of the hunters.
– It is he who will free me from the snare of the hunters.
And from the evil word.
– It is he who will free me from the snare of the hunters.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
– It is he who will free me from the snare of the hunters.

De Messia eiusque præcursoreAmen dico vobis, quia nemo prophéta accéptus est in pátria sua.
Benedíctus Dóminus Deus Israel,*
quia visitávit et fecit redemptiónem plebi suæ
et eréxit cornu salútis nobis*
in domo David púeri sui,
sicut locútus est per os sanctórum,*
qui a sæculo sunt, prophetárum eius,
salútem ex inimícis nostris*
et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos;
in remissiónem peccatórum eórum,
per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri,*
in quibus visitábit nos óriens ex alto,
illumináre his, qui in ténebris et in umbra mortis sedent*
ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.
Glória Patri et Fílio*
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio et nunc et semper*
et in sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.
Amen dico vobis, quia nemo prophéta accéptus est in pátria sua.

The Messiah and his forerunnerTruly I tell you, there is no respect for a prophet in his own country.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has come to his people and brought about their redemption.
He has raised up the sign of salvation
in the house of his servant David,
as he promised through the mouth of the holy ones,
his prophets through the ages:
to rescue us from our enemies
and all who hate us,
to take pity on our fathers,
to remember his holy covenant
and the oath he swore to Abraham our father,
that he would give himself to us,
that we could serve him without fear
– freed from the hands of our enemies –
in uprightness and holiness before him,
for all of our days.
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High:
for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his path,
to let his people know their salvation,
so that their sins may be forgiven.
Through the bottomless mercy of our God,
one born on high will visit us
to give light to those who walk in darkness,
who live in the shadow of death;
to lead our feet in the path of peace.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Truly I tell you, there is no respect for a prophet in his own country.

– Dírige, Dómine, pópulum tuum in viam rectam.
– Dírige, Dómine, pópulum tuum in viam rectam.
Præsta, ut indigéntes benevoléntia nostra hódie lætificémus
eísque subveniéntes teípsum inveniámus.
– Dírige, Dómine, pópulum tuum in viam rectam.
Tríbue nobis bonum, rectum et verum coram te operári
teque semper toto corde requírere.
– Dírige, Dómine, pópulum tuum in viam rectam.
– Dírige, Dómine, pópulum tuum in viam rectam.

Blessed be Jesus, our Saviour. Through his death he has opened up for us the way of salvation. Let us pray:
– Direct your people, Lord, in the path of true life.
Merciful God, in baptism you gave us a life that is new;
may we ever grow in your likeness.
– Direct your people, Lord, in the path of true life.
Let us bring joy this day to those who are in need;
and draw us nearer to you through the help we give them.
– Direct your people, Lord, in the path of true life.
Help us to do what is right and good;
let us seek you always with all our heart.
– Direct your people, Lord, in the path of true life.
Forgive us for the times we have hurt other people, and failed to preserve the unity of your family;
Lord, have mercy on us.
– Direct your people, Lord, in the path of true life.

Pater noster, qui es in cælis:
sanctificétur nomen tuum;
advéniat regnum tuum;
fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie;
et dimítte nobis débita nostra,
sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris;
et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem;
sed líbera nos a malo.
| Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
|
Amen.
| By your unfailing mercy, Lord,
purify and guard your Church,
and since without you she cannot stand fast,
support and guide her always by your grace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
|
Amen.
| The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
